According to the report of an American think tank, the number of Muslims in the world is one billion ninety-two million, and sixty percent of them live in Asia. The preparation of this report by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life took three years and during this time census data was collected from 232 countries and regions of the world.
The researchers used more than 1500 sources such as census reports, demographic studies, and general population surveys to prepare this report. According to this report, twenty percent of the total number of Muslims live in the Middle East and North Africa, while according to statistics, there are currently more Muslims in Germany than in Lebanon, and the number of Muslims in Russia is more than the total number of Muslims in Libya and Jordan.
Senior researcher Brian Grimm, who prepared the report, told CNN that he was surprised by such a large number of Muslims. He says that the total number of Muslims is much more than my estimates.
According to this report, the number of Muslims in Ethiopia and Afghanistan is almost equal.
According to this report, 300 million Muslims live in countries where Islam is not the majority religion. According to Amani Jamal, professor of political science at Princeton University, the idea that Muslims are Arabs or only Arabs are Muslims is completely rejected after this report.
The report also states that eighty-seven to ninety percent of the world’s Muslims belong to the Sunni faith, while ten to thirteen percent are Shia faith Muslims. Most of the world’s Shias live in Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, and India.
The continent of Europe is home to 38.3 million Muslims who are five percent of the total population of Europe. More than half of the 6.4 million Muslims living in the continental United States live in the United States, but they make up less than one percent of the total US population.
